It has been an honor to serve on the Plano City Council since 2009. I am continually humbled by the opportunity to serve you and this great city. I am proud of what we have accomplished together over the last four years and I am asking for your support in seeking a second term.
When I took office in May of 2009, Plano was facing unprecedented challenges. We were on the front end of the Great Recession with substantial projected budget shortfalls from a combination of slowing growth, declining property values, and a decrease in sales tax revenue.
I am proud to say that Plano has emerged from these difficult times a stronger city than ever before. Working alongside my colleagues on the City Council, as well as an outstanding city staff, some of the highlights over the last four years include:
- Public Safety - Plano has twice been named the “Safest City In America” by Forbes Magazine as the crime rate has declined each year since 2009.
- Economic Development – The City of Plano has successfully recruited and retained 38 companies, creating over 8,000 jobs with a median annual salary of $81,669, with more than $480 million in total improvements.
- Sound Fiscal Management – Plano has maintained one of the lowest effective property tax rates in the state as well as its AAA bond rating. Among the rationale for Plano’s sterling bond rating, one of the rating agencies stated that “City officials have addressed revenue declines with necessary cuts that closed significant, projected annual budget gaps in order to preserve solid reserve levels while sustaining the city’s proactive approach to funding operational, economic development, and capital needs.”
- Government Transparency – The City of Plano earned the Gold Leadership Circle Award from the Texas Comptroller’s office, the highest level of recognition for government transparency awarded by the State of Texas.
I remain steadfast in my belief that there is no better place in America to live, work, and to raise a family than Plano. With your advocacy and vote in the May 11th election, I pledge to continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Plano’s future will be even brighter than its past.
